Discover CVE Statistics
We’re pleased to announce the new CVE Statistics page on OpenCVE 🎉
This new page provides a comprehensive view of key metrics and trends across the CVE ecosystem, helping users gain valuable insights into vulnerabilities over time.
Why CVE Statistics Matter
As the number of CVEs continues to grow each year, understanding their distribution, severity, and impact becomes crucial.
Whether you’re a security researcher, a developer, or part of a SOC team, this new feature offers a detailed perspective to help you prioritize and act on the data.
What is Included?
The Statistics page includes the following data visualizations and insights:
-
Yearly CVE Counts: See how many CVEs are published each year, with trends that reveal the evolving landscape of vulnerabilities.
-
Cumulative CVE Counts: Track the total number of CVEs over time, showcasing the exponential growth of vulnerabilities.
-
CVSS Categorized Scores: Explore the distribution of CVEs across severity levels (Low, Medium, High, and Critical) for different CVSS versions, including the latest CVSS 4.0.
-
Top Vendors and Products: Identify which vendors and products have the most reported CVEs.
Key Highlights from the Data
As of 2024, there are over 275,405 CVEs recorded, with a steady rise in publication rates in recent years. The number of published CVEs increased by 14.1% in just one year, rising from 29,093 in 2023 to 33,206 in 2024.
Approximately 3,600 CVEs are scored using CVSS 4.0, representing just 0.91% of all CVEs. In comparison, CVSS 2.0 accounts for 46.98%, CVSS 3.0 for 15.43%, and CVSS 3.1 for 36.67%, highlighting the relatively limited adoption of the 4.0 version.
The most vulnerabilities found in products include Enterprise Linux, Debian Linux, and the Linux Kernel, reflecting their widespread use. Vendors like Microsoft, Red Hat, and Google top the list in terms of CVEs reported, underscoring the importance of security in their ecosystems.
